Determination Center
The Determination Center of Tropicalia/Richardiana offers to help you to identify plants whose identification you are not sure of.
The below guide give you directions for use.
The material you will send us to that end will be presented in the page Plants to be identified, so that everyone can give its opinion.
Once the plant is correctly identified, the corresponding file (material plus name) will stay two weeks more in this page then will be placed in the page Records.
Guide for asking for a determination
1. To collect the necessary material
Ideally, plant material is necessary to correctly identify the plant. When possible, you can dry a piece of your plant and/or put one or more flowers in conservation liquid.
Composition of the conservation liquid: 60° spirit: 80% + 10% + 10%.
When plant material is not available, you have to send illustrations : botanical drawings with as many details as possible, pictures of the plant as a whole, of the flower, and, once again, of all the possible details. Please remember that some species differentiate only by little details (lip structure, callus, column, for instance, as well as vegetative parts, in some species). It is very important to repport these details.
The description of the plant is always useful, with all the parts: rhizome, roots, stems or pseudobulbs, sheaths, leaves, inflorescence, floral bracts, flowers, pedicel, sepals, petals, lip, column.
You can also, in some cases (geographical proximity), lend us your blooming plant.
2. Send your request to Tropicalia
Your determination request should be sent to:

Please indicate, if you know it, the geographical origin of the plant, as well as any information you may think useful.
Non plant-material can be sent, it's up to you, via e-mail to determination@richardiana.com
